Home Coffee Roaster works on the same principle as commercial roasters, however, it is much simplified with lesser controls and is built on a small footprint for small roast batch size so as to make it commercially viable for the home users. There are 2 main types of roasters: drum and fluid bed roasters. Drum roaster works by rotating the raw coffee beans in a cylinder with heat transfer via convection or infrared radiation. Fluid bed roaster uses hot air to roast the coffee beans in the air, usually within a glass chamber where the entire roasting process can be monitored easily. In general, drum roaster will roast a batch of beans slower than the fluid bed roaster, giving a fuller taste with more body than the same batch roasted in the fluid bed. On the other hand, the fluid bed roaster, given its much faster roast, tends to capture more of the delicate subtleties (eg. fruitiness) of the bean characteristics.
The Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster has been a great success, attributed to its consistent roast and performance. Due to the market needs for a more economical home roaster with the same level of competency, we will be introducing a new home roaster for the true coffee lovers.
